Why Invest In Early Learning

A simple orange cloud-shaped graphic with rounded edges on a transparent background.

Children’s early foundational years are the most critical time to invest in their learning. During this period, neural networks are rapidly formed, and the impact of education is at its greatest, shaping the foundation for future cognitive abilities. Your child has one chance to capitalize on this critical learning window, and that’s before the age of 11.

Touchstone students are with us from ages 4 until 11. See below, from research at the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, that these years are when higher cognitive functioning is at a very responsive window. See how the cognitive function development declines significantly once a child is in middle school and high school.

With Touchstone’s small class sizes and approach, the individual attention your child receives during this critical time of cognitive development can set them up for a lifetime of educational, emotional, and social abilities.

Line chart titled "Human brain development" showing the development of sensory pathways (vision, hearing), language, and higher cognitive function over time. Sensory pathways peak around 3 months, language around 9 months, and higher cognitive function between 1 and 4 years, all declining afterward. The chart highlights "Touchstone Years" from ages 0 to 10. Adapted from C.A. Nelson (2000), credited to the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University.
